The Master's degree in Earth, Planets, Environment in Lyon is a training program of excellence in Research & Development in Earth Sciences. The courses are based on the cutting-edge research themes of the Geology Laboratory of Lyon (LGL-TPE), a world leader in geosciences research. Your teachers are internationally renowned researchers in their field, who will be committed to training you in their discipline.

The first year of the Master's program includes a core curriculum for half of the year, which will provide you with the essential skills for a future career in R&D (several months' experience in a research laboratory, digital skills, English, etc.). The rest of the year is designed according to your preferences and professional project. A wide range of options will allow you to specialize in paleontology, sedimentology, internal Earth processes (dynamics, mineralogy...), planetology, geochemistry, tectonics, geomorphology.... Your program is entirely customizable!

More than 90% of our alumni choose to start a PhD after completing the M2 program. Beyond the PhD, our former students pursue successful careers in French or international academic research, or join R&D in innovative French or foreign companies. This Master's degree is open to international exchanges and is entirely taught in English.

The Master's degree is co-accredited by 3 institutions: ENS de Lyon, Université Lyon 1 and Université Jean Monnet (Saint-Étienne). This means that the courses are taught by researchers from these 3 institutions. However, the courses will only take place on two campuses: the ENS de Lyon campus and the LyonTech- laDoua campus.
