The aim of this course is to learn how to conceive, assemble and carry out an experiment (phase transformation in minerals and liquids, analogical models of geophysical fluid dynamics, …) involving in-situ imaging or spectroscopic characterization developed in the Earth science research laboratories at ENS de Lyon and Université Claude Bernard.

After a short theoretical introduction, small groups of students (2-3) carry out their experimental project in practicals under the supervision of a project tutor.

Evaluation: experiment report

Pre-requisites: basic knowledge in geophysics and/or mineralogy/petrology.
